In addition to its existing catch handling systems for shrimp and mackerel, a cod production line is now being added to the processing deck of Greenlandic trawler Svend C, owned by Sikuaq Trawl, to extend the vessel’s production options and secure year-round operation.
Quota management developments have seen a shift towards cod in Greenlandic waters, and for Sikuaq Trawl, the fastest way to take advantage of this opportunity is a factory refit that adds this extra functionality. For the engineering team at Carsoe, this entailed rethinking an already compact layout, and re-engineering routing and systems to share equipment, without compromising flow or hygiene standards.

This has integrated a cod processing line into the existing factory deck functionality and hygiene routines, sharing equipment across lines to make best possible use of what is already available. Conveyors have been reconfigured to maintain flow and additional equipment has been fabricated in stainless steel for efective cleaning.
‘The cod addition is about reliability and utilisation. Carsoe understood our constraints on the factory deck and delivered a result that uses our space wisely and keeps the handling simple for the crew,’ said Carl Christensen CEO and owner of Sikuaq Trawl.
The project has moved quickly from decision to build, with a twelve-week lead time from order to equipment delivery made possible by close coordination between Carsoe engineering, production, and Sikuaq Trawl.
‘Time is money, and Carsoe understands this, and has also demonstrated a high degree of flexibility throughout the process,’ Carl Christensen said.
Carsoe technicians boarded at Svend C in port in the Faroe Islands to begin selective dismantling and factory preparations during transit, to optimise the installation phase. Svend C will arrive by mid-April, when additional Carsoe installation engineers will join on site to complete the cod line installation, integrate conveyors, and ramp up toward commissioning.
