Royal Greenland’s Kiliutaq has undergone a major upgrade in Denmark. The 67.50-metre trawler has been part of the company’s fleet since 2001, operating as a dedicated shrimper with processing and freezing on board.
Now it is back in Greenland after being alongside in Skagen since March for a factory deck upgrade, with groundfish production installed by Beritech. This enables Kiliutaq to operate on cod, in addition to its usual target species of shrimp. This provides the company with flexible options whenever shrimp fishing is uncertain, plus the opportunity to take advantage of greater abundance of cod.
‘We have extended the trawler’s lifespan and capacity, and made it more modern and versatile,’ said Royal Greenland crewing manager Eqalunnguaq Kristiansen.
Beritch’s team delivered and installed a dedicated cod processing line for H&G groundfish, making Kiliutaq fully equipped for dual-species production at sea. Alongside the installation of the new processing line, the existing shrimp handling system was given a thorough service to ensure uninterrupted operation of both.
The new H&G cod processing line has been designed to be integrated into Kiliutaq’s existing factory deck layout.
The refit was precisely scheduled by Beritech to optimise Kiliutaq’s port time in Denmark, and the refit was completed on time, enabling the trawler to be back in Greenland and ready to be back fishing.
