A new high-tech processing plant has opened in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, part of a push to increase the country’s fish consumption.
The 6800 square metre facility is part of the Lviv Regional Production Fish Plant, a key processing centres in Eastern Europe, and complies with every international standard for quality, environmental safety and food hygiene. These include ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 22000, which allow the plant export production, as well as supplying the domestic market.

The plant has capacity to process up to 25 tonnes of raw material per day to generate 12.5 tonnes of finished products. Both domestically farmed fish and imported raw materials are used for production.
The three-storey production plant has loading bays for incoming raw materials and outgoing production, spaces for processing raw, salted and smoked fish, dry areas for semi-finished products and staff facilities.
It currently employs 82 staff, but once it reaches full production capacity, there will be 283 new jobs.
Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky stated that the Ministry of Economy is continuing its work on the development of domestic fish farming and aquaculture and their processing.
‘We are honoured to open the largest fish processing plant in Eastern Europe. This is not just a production facility – it is a strategic step in the development of national aquaculture,’ the minister said.
‘We are not only investing in processing, but also changing our approach: from growing to how to deliver high-quality, safe and tasty final products to the consumer. Thanks to modern technologies, we are improving the recipe and striving to change the culture of consuming fish products in our country.’
The Deputy Minister also commented that the Ministry is continuing to promoye a culture of consumption of domestically produced fish among Ukrainians, in particular, fish purchases continue at auctions on the Prozorro platform.
