Lorient fishing company APAK is aiming to reduce its exposure to fuel cost spikes with a 12-15% reduction in its energy consumption through a fleet modernisation project.
21.90-metre trawler Le Dolmen, built in 2019, is to benefiot from an advanced optimisation programme starting early next year. Designed with a network of specialist suppliers – Vectura System, Coprexma, Le Drezen, MécaDiesel, Morgère and Padmos – this development incorporates real-time consumption measurement system to support eco-operation , hydrodynamic optimisation of trawl gear, and fine adjustment of the propeller and engine torque.
A complete overhaul and modernisation of the main engine’s electronics will restore its initial performance at a lower cost, avoiding a complete replacement of the block.
Sustainably reducing fuel consumption by 12% to 15%, representing an annual saving of 42,000 litres of diesel and 112 tonnes of CO2 avoided, is an ambitious target
APAK is also committed to digital transition through the HYO (Halieutics Yield Optimiser) project. By combining catch, weather, and sales data via a SaaS decision-support platform, the fishing company hopes to optimise its vessels’ routing and the value of their catches at fish markets.
This project also marks a major social turning point with the transfer of ownership of Le Dolmen.
Skipper Frédéric Lizeul takes over SAS Dolmen, succeeding Éric Guygniec, a pivotal figure in development and innovation within APAK. This handover is secured by the investment of the regional innovation fund BreizhUp and the Lorient-based seafood group Océalliance , alongside Crédit Maritime and Scapêche.
