Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Marianne Sivertsen Næss is attending Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona – meeting representatives of Norway’s seafood industry, as well as Ministerial counterparts from Brazil and the UK, which are key markets for Norwegian seafood exports.
‘I invited the industry to a dialogue to hear how the trade unrest is affecting them, and what we can do together to strengthen exports. I greatly appreciate the feedback I received. This is an industry that both delivers strong results and shows an impressive ability to adapt to new challenges,’ Marianne Sivertsen Næss said.
Norway’s seafood exports have exceeded a record-breaking NoK58.50 billion so far this year – although exporters face increased tariffs to the United States, which in value terms is the largest single market for Norwegian seafood.
Like most of the world, Norway has been subject to an additional 10% since 5th April by the US.
‘The trade policy situation understandably creates a a great deal of uncertainty for the industry. The government’s goal is to reduce tariffs against Norway. We have extensive contact with the US, the EU and other trading partners, and are working to ensure good market access for Norwegian exporters,’ the Minister said.
