An extensive search conducted in the English Channel for the remaining crew of French trawler Maranello has now been suspended.
The trawler got into difficulties on Saturday in a positon approximately 26 nautical miles south-west of Plymouth. Another Saint-Brieuc trawler, Stradale, attended the scene to assist and took off three of the crew before Maranello sank.
One of the rescued crewmen was airlifted to hospital in Truro while two were treated in Plymouth. All three have since been able to travel back to France.
‘The intensive multi-agency search for two people missing from a French-registered fishing vessel which sank last night (29th August), southwest of the Eddystone Lighthouse, has been suspended pending further information. Three people were rescued and are currently travelling back to France,’ stated an HM Coastguard representative.
Two of Maranello’s crew remain missing, despite the efforts of a major air and surface search coordinated by MRCC Falmouth
The 21.50 metre Maranello was delivered by the Socarenam shipyard in 2016 for Saint-Brieuc owners Jimmy Eouzan and Antoine Travadon.
