The fisheries committees of Brittany and the Côtes d’Armor have expressed their deepest gratitude to all those who, in France and the UK, came to the aid of Saint-Brieuc trawler Maranello and its crew.
In difficult weather conditions, the trawler, owned by the Eouzan Travadon fishing company, sank south of Plymouth during the afternoon of 29th August. While three crew members were rescued, the skipper and the bosun remain unaccounted for, despite the intensive search effort in the area.
‘This is another ordeal and a profound sorrow for our entire industry and our region, which has already suffered painful losses in recent months. We knew the men we lost well, and this is we never get used to,’ said Grégory Métayer, president of the Côtes d’Armor Fisheries Committee and vice-president of the Brittany Fisheries Committee.
‘While waiting for clarification of the circumstances surrounding the event, the industry’s thoughts and unwavering support are with the victims, the survivors, their families, loved ones, and colleagues who have been so deeply affected by this terrible tragedy.’
The Fisheries Committees in Brittany have also expressed their appreciation of the efforts of all those who mobilised in response to the distress call.
