MMC First Process has contracted with Ålesund seafood company Mathias Bjørge AS to deliver a modern and highly environmentally friendly refrigeration system for the company’s new fillet factory on Ellingsøy.
The company states that this advanced refrigeration system will ensure stable and reliable cooling throughout the entire production process, and is a major step towards more sustainable and energy-efficient solutions in the industry.

‘This plant represents the best technology in environmentally friendly and energy-efficient cooling systems, and will be an example of how future technologies can be combined with increased awareness of energy and the environment. By implementing advanced Co2 technology, we not only contribute to reducing energy consumption, but also to minimising the environmental impact,’ said Daniel Johansson, sales manager for energy systems at MMC First Process.
The refrigeration system The refrigeration system to be installed is a full 1.1 megawatts and will use Co2 as the refrigerant. For the freezer section, pumped-circulated Co2 will provide efficient cooling, while DX (direct expansion) will be used in the refrigeration section. Co2 is known for its good properties when it comes to heat recovery, and is used in Norway for tap water, snow melting, heat ventilation, underfloor heating and ice melting, among other things.
‘We look forward to continuing our collaboration with MMC-FP in expanding our product range and upgrading our existing production facilities. It is great and important to have a strong local business community with the expertise we need to carry out the project in such a flexible and energy-efficient way,’ said Ole Martin Strømnes, technical manager at Mathias Bjørge AS.
‘Our history dates back to 1962, so we have a long tradition of high-quality seafood,’ said co-owner Henning Bjørge.
‘The reception our salmon has received in the market is the result of many years of hard work. We are now very much looking forward to opening the new factory. Then we can finally produce fresh and frozen salmon fillets in addition to frozen salmon portions locally.’
