Vísir’s longliners are currently searching for tusk as their primary target species on fishing grounds south of Iceland.

Páll Jónsson landed earlier this week after a short stub of a trip.
Skipper Jónas Ingi Sigurðsson said that this time they shot away the line four times for 70 tonnes.
‘This was mostly tusk and ling, with some cod and haddock,’ he said, commenting that the catch was taken on the Selvogur Bank.
‘As soon as we finished landing we headed east towards Ingólfshöfði to keep searching for tusk.’
Sighvatur landed 105 tonnes from a longer trip across several fishing areas, with heavy weather at the start of the trip that soon fined away.
‘This was a reasonably successful trip, but the fact is that it’s not easy to get hold of tusk,’ said Sighvatur’s skipper Óli Björn Björgvinsson.
‘Even on the usual tusk areas there doesn’t seem to be a lot to be had, and we’re getting too much ling mixed with it,’ he said, as Sighvatur was preparing to sail as soon as the catch had been discharged.
