Switching the old system of weekly catch allowances for whole-year quotas has opened up a whole new world for Swedish fishermen, according to SFPO chairman Peter Olsson. He also commented that the trawler fleet is under assault from Sweden’s Greens, as green NGOs strive to out-do each other in demonstrating their green values in the run-up to elections later this year.

Danish trawler Bolette has changed hands and gone to Sweden where it will be fishing for langoustine off the Danish and Swedish coasts. SweDen Pelagic has reached an agreement with Launis A/S to acquire the entire shareholding of Danish company Nielsens Fiskeeksport, based at Ålbæk in Jutland. The new owners have already taken over management of the Danish company which is Denmark’s second largest producer of herring for the food industry.

The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (SwAM) is in the process of developing a new system of allocating quotas that is planned to be in place from the 1st of January next year. Now out for consultation, responses must be submitted to the agency by 18th November.
