The turnover of Peru’s fishing sector in November 2024 was up more than 17% compared to the same period in 2023, largely due to the increase in anchovy landings.
1,125,6000 tonnes were landed during November, a 33.20% increase on the 845,100 tonnes landed in November 2023. According to Minister of Production Sergio González Guerrero, the growth in the sector could see the fishing industry account for 1.2% of the country’s GDP.
For the year up to the end of November, landings totalled 4.80 million tonnes, which also represents a substantial 46% increase on the 3.28 million tonnes landed in the same eleven-month period in 2023.
Alongside this growth, the proportion of the anchovy catch landed for direct human consumption in the north-central zone came to 1,067,700 tonnes – an increase of more than 40%.
Peru has also seen increases in the fishery for scallops, up 337%, while hake is 265% up and there has been a 46% increase in mullet landings.
