Urk fishing technology specialist VCU has announced a strategic partnership with Danish marine electronics company Vest-El, based in the west coast ports of Thyborøn and Hvide Sande.

As of this month, Vest-El is the official dealer for Denmark for the VCU CatchManagement system – VCU’s onboard weighing and registration system. VCU’s technology is already in widespread use on fishing vessels operating in the North Sea, and this collaboration with Vest-El aims to expands VCU’s presence on the Danish market, and to meet the growing demand for robust, user-friendly, and highly accurate onboard weighing systems for fishing vessels.
The VCU installation brings together motion-compensated marine scales, industrial touchscreen terminals, label printers, and powerful data registration software in a robust system that provides a comprehensive weighing and registration system tailored for fishing vessels. It offers multilingual capabilities, full traceability, and remote support.
‘The decision to partner with Vest-El is a logical next step for VCU,’ a representative of the Urk-based company said.
‘With growing interest from the Danish fishing fleet, it was vital to work with a company that understands the local industry and has a strong presence in the ports of Thyborøn and Hvide Sande. Several Danish and Norwegian vessels have already been successfully equipped with the VCU CatchManagement system.’

In addition to the dealership, VCU has also announced the implementation of a direct (automated) link between the VCU CatchManagement system and the Danish E-logbook. A single push of a button allows catch data to be seamlessly transferred to the E-logbook, significantly reducing manual input and simplifying reporting for skippers.
VCU and Vest-El are confident that this partnership will lead to further innovation and efficiency within the Danish fishing sector, and will provide customers with local expertise, fast service, and access to cutting-edge technology.
One of the Danish fishing vessels that has been using the VCU Catch Management system is Tove Kynde L-232, which has been working with this since November 2020.
‘We are very satisfied — not only with the system itself but especially with the support and assistance provided by the VCU technicians,’ said Martin Kynde, commenting that they have a good working relationship with VCU.
‘They are always very helpful when an issue arises, and they continuously work to improve the system. The latest update allows us to export the catch report directly to the E-log. After a few adjustments, this process is now quick and straightforward. VCU has listened carefully to our feedback and needs, and with that kind of collaboration, testing new features becomes a pleasure. The system is user-friendly, the cooperation is smooth, and the service is offered at a fair price.’
