Iceland’s lifesaving association Ice-Sar recently held its annual congress, and the opportunity was taken to present Hilmar Snorrason, who has for thirty years worked steadfastly on safety issues for seafarers, with recognition of his work.

Ice-Sar (the Icelandic Association for Search, Rescue & Injury Prevention) president Borghildur Fjóla Kristjánsdóttir presented Hilmar Snorrason with a section of the wheel of training ship Sæbjörg, which has for many years been used to hold training courses for fishermen and other seafarers.
‘The man in the wheelhouse who has been the driving force behind safety for seafarers is Hilmar Snorrason,’ Borghildur Fjóla Kristjánsdóttir said as she made the presentation.
‘Few people have made such a contribution to reducing the number of serious and fatal accidents at sea as Hilmar. This is a life’s work for which we are thankful. You have been at the forefront of preventing accidents at sea for three decades and have ensured that thousands of seafarers have returned home safely.’
The Ice-Sar congress rewarded Hilmar Snorrason with a standing ovation.
