The National Fisheries Office (Office National des Pêches – ONP) in Morocco and the Mauritanian Seafood Marketing Company (Société Mauritanienne de Commercialisation de Poissons – SMCP) last week signed an MoU aiming to boost bilateral cooperation in fisheries.
The agreement was signed by ONP director general Amina Figuigui and SMCP director general Yahia Ahmed El Waqf, at a meeting attended by the Mauritania’s ambassador to Morocco Ahmed Ould Bahia and Ibrahim Boudinar, secretary general of the Moroccan Secretariat of State for Maritime Fisheries.
Under the MoU, the two countries aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation in fisheries and to establish a structured partnership between the organisations responsible for marketing seafood from both countries. This entails an exchange of expertise in marketing and training, and the management of standard shipping containers. SMCP will be provided with technical assistance by ONP.
Supported by the Secretariat of State for Maritime Fisheries, this MoU underscores a shared commitment to a sustainable approach in the development and marketing of seafood resources.
