Regional quotas have been allocated to 42 locations in 25 local authority districts for the 2024-25 quota year.
The Minister has the discretion to allocate these quotas to dostricts that are in genuine difficulties due to the industry consolidating and to respond to foreseeable challenges related to changes in particular species quotas.
This year’s allocations total 3807 cod-equivalent tonnes. Quotas overall have been reduced this year, and this proportionately affects quotas allocated to specific districts.
The largest allocations are to the Westfjords (1593 tonnes) and the north-eastern region (1064 tonnes). 2259 tonnes are allocated to communities with few than 400 inhabitants. Eleven districts have been allocated just 15 tonnes, while there are three that have been allocated the maximum allowable amount of 285 cod-equivalent tonnes.
In addition to this year’s allocations, 1038 cod-equivalent tonnes are carried over from the previous quota year.
