The Nodosa Shipyard in Marín is making significant progress on the construction of Pesantar 1, the freezer trawler designed and built entirely by the Galician shipyard for Argentinian fishing operator Pesantar, a joint venture between Newsan and Profand.
The 85-metre LOA, 14-metre breadth hull was launched earlier this month. The hull has since been relocated to a larger slipway with better capacity to step up the pace of outfitting. The schedule is for delivery in the spring of 2027.
Pesantar 1 is one of the yard’s most advanced fishing builds, designed for the sustainable harvesting of Patagonian toothfish and other species in Argentine and adjacent waters. This trawler will have the latest technology on board as the designers have focused on optimising operational efficiency and product quality.
The project represents one of the largest investments made by the owners in the renewal of its fleet and will allow the replacement of the historic Echizen Maru , incorporating important technological advances such as high energy efficiency machinery, energy recovery systems, a fishmeal processing plant and a modern freezing system to optimise the full utilisation of catches.
Pesantar 1 will have a production capacity of up to 80 tonnes per day, and will operate with a streamlined fuel consumption and carbon footprint.
