Vard has secured a contract for a new trawler based on the VARD 8 02 design, to be built for Ålesund company Rosund Drift, an addition to the company’s Atlantic Star.
The 80.40-metre, 16.70-metre vessel will having a deck laid out for handling both demersal and semi-pelagic gear, and is to be outfitted for frozen H&G groundfish production, as well as having ensilage capacity for processing of biomass ashore.
‘We are delighted to welcome Rosund Drift AS as a customer. The VARD 8 02 design has proven highly successful in the market, and this project will further enhance its capabilities to meet future industry demands. I want to credit Rosund Drift AS for seeing the opportunities in a challenging market,’ said VARD’s Roger Sandnes.
There’s a great deal of Vard technology going into Rosund Drift’s new trawler, incuding an array of integrated SeaQ systems from Vard Electro to support improved operational performance onboard. This includes SeaQ Energy Storage System in combination with SeaQ Microgrid, allowing power to be recovered from the permanent magnet electric motors on the trawl winches while shooting away to feed back into the system during hauling. The SeaQ Power Management System is to be seamlessly integrated with the hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system.
Seaonics is providing an electric winch and crane package. Vard Interiors will deliver a complete and fully integrated interior package, combining modern design with sustainable HVAC, refrigeration, and piping systems.
The wheelhouse comes with SeaQ Bridge, offering an integrated bridge system with an intuitive user interface, allowing the control setup to be tailored to specific operational needs. SeaQ Bridge also acts as a digital enabler by bringing operational data together through one interface, supporting better decision-making.
The design of the VARD 8 02 is in the hands of Vard Design in Ålesund. The hull will be produced at Vard Shipyards Romania – Braila while the outfitting and commissioning are too take place and Vard Brattvaag, with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2028.
