It’s not every day that a figure of José Gramaxo’s stature leaves the business. After 47 years at the heart of the fishing gear industry, Jóse Gramaxo has retired from his role at Royal Lankhorst Euronete Group (WireCo).
Over those years he has held a variety of positions, most recently as president of WireCo’s Global Synthetics division, but has never been far from the factory floor where he always made a point of greeting staff by name, establishing a depth of loyalty throughout the workforce.
‘After 47 years, I felt the time was right to retire, although I’ll admit I’ve second-guessed the decision more than once,’ he said.
‘I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing personal interests, and taking a moment to reflect after dedicating much of my life to building a leading rope and netting business. It’s an emotional milestone, as I’ve had the privilege of working with exceptional colleagues, customers and partners throughout the years. Nonetheless, I’m confident this is the right moment for me to step back.’
Although he’s retiring from day-to-day activity, he will remain with WireCo as an advisor to the CEO, maintaining a close connection with the world of ropes and netting.
‘You simply don’t replace someone like José, a true icon in this industry, said WireCo CEO Keith White.
‘He has spent his entire life in this business and his influence can be felt wherever ropes and netting are made, used, or discussed. It has been an honour for WireCo to have him as part of the team, and he will be greatly missed by employees, customers, partners, and industry colleagues alike. That said, we have been preparing for this transition over the past three years, and we’ve built a robust succession plan and organisational structure to ensure continuity and minimise any impact on day-to-day business operations.’
José Gramaxo commented that he has had the privilege of working alongside exceptional colleagues whose dedication, professionalism, and kindness have left a lasting impression.
‘The relationships built with customers, suppliers, the challenges overcome, and the accomplishments shared will remain among my most meaningful memories,’ he said.
‘As I step forward into a new phase of life, I do so with immense gratitude and respect for all who have walked this path with me. Thank you for allowing me to be part of something larger than myself, and for making these 47 years a source of pride, purpose, and lasting connection.’
