With fish worth £77 landed and sold through its fish market last year, Brixham has again smashed its own record.
The £77 million total for 2025 leaves the previous year’s £62 million figure behind by a healthy margin.
The overall tonnage passing through the auction was 13,830 tonnes, including 3183 tonnes of cuttlefish and 1795 tonnes of Mediterranean octopus, and 1665 tonnes of fish were exported to buyers overseas.
‘This reflects a fantastic year for our fleet, buyers, and everyone involved in getting Brixham’s world-class seafood to markets across the UK and beyond,’ a BTA representative said, commenting that the increase in Mediterranean octopus and another strong and steady cuttlefish season combined with favourable weather and seafood prices, increased transport and export operations and more vessels choosing to land in Brixham to generate this successful 2025 with a string of record-breaking weeks and days at the auction.
‘These record-breaking figures were only possible thanks to the dedication of the entire BTA team. From our day, evening, and night shifts to our transport and office teams, everyone has worked exceptionally hard throughout the year,’ BTA’s representative said.
‘Here’s to building on this success in 2026.’
