A significant financial prerequisite for the extension of the port of Hirtshals is in place as the City Council of Hjørring Municipality has approved a municipal loan guarantee for extension of the West Pier.
This is intended to create more stable and safe navigation conditions and increase the regularity of existing and future traffic to and from Hirtshals.
Hjørring Municipality has approved an application from the Board of Directors of the Port of Hirtshals for a municipal loan guarantee totaling DKK 740 million for the Extension of the West Pier. The approval marks another important milestone in the Port Expansion with the Nordhavnen.
‘The Port of Hirtshals has undergone significant development in recent years, and we must be able to support this development for many years to come. Ships are getting bigger and the requirements for capacity, regularity and navigation conditions are increasing. With the Extension of the West Pier, we are investing long-term in the framework that our current and future customers need,’ said Per Anholm Nørgaard, CEO of the Port of Hirtshals.
The West Pier will be extended by approximately 350 meters, while the overall project includes the establishment of 750 meters of new pier. The extension will create more shelter and calmer wave conditions at the entrance.
‘The Port of Hirtshals is an important part of Hjørring Municipality’s business community, jobs and traffic infrastructure. Therefore, it is of great importance that the port has the right framework to continue to develop. With the loan guarantee, we support a long-term investment, while the Port of Hirtshals itself finances the project,’ said Søren Smalbro, Mayor of Hjørring Municipality and deputy chairman of the board of the Port of Hirtshals.
