Heavyweights launched at Gdansk yard
The Nauta Shipyard at Gdansk in Poland has sent a couple of large new fishing vessels down the ways and into the water, with partly-outfitted hulls launched for completion at yards in Norway and Denmark.
Damen’s first Fishing Seminar in South Africa

Maaskant bids farewell to director Frits van Dongen
A very familiar figure to the Dutch and UK fishing industries in particular, Frits van Dongen has retired after a forty-year career at the Maaskant Shipyard in Stellendam, and at a 70th birthday party for the yard held at the yard last weekend, friends, staff and many customers gathered to wish him well, and to welcome new director Eric Moerkerk.
Pella yard signs up for Far East shipyard
The Pella shipyard, based in St Petersburg, has signed an Investment Project Implementation Agreement with the regional administration in Russia’s Primorye region to establish shipbuilding capacity in the Far East.
New UK beamer is Luyt yard’s largest contract
The Machinefabriek Luyt yard at Den Oever has been contracted to deliver a new 35.25 metre beam trawler for UK company Waterdance. The keel of the new trawler is due to be laid at the Ibis yard in Holland at the beginning of September and the completed hull is scheduled to be delivered next spring to Den Oever for fitting out.
Hirtshals dock heels over
The covered dry dock in Hirtshals unexpectedly took on a 45° list on Friday, with a Norwegian pelagic vessel inside. Work is in progress to right the dock as soon as possible.
Veteran longliner gets full rebuild
Longliner Sævík left Iceland last year and was towed to Gdansk, emerging as a practically new fishing vessel ready to replace one of operating company Vísir’s older longliners.
Karstensens sets up hull production in Poland
Skagen shipyard Karstensens Skibsværft has established its own construction base for producing hulls in Poland, and in addition to setting up its own company, it has acquired production facilities from Vistal Offshore in Gdynia, a modern facility built in 2013.

The partly-outfitted trawler Ora et Labora has been launched by Szczecin yard PTS for delivery to Vestvaerftet in Denmark.
Morgère opens vessel repair facilities in Brittany
Leading French trawl door manufacturer Morgère has expanded its service portfolio for the fishing fleet by opening two new boat repair and maintenance facilities at St Brieuc and Perros-Guirec in Brittany.
