The price of salmon has fallen by 6.7% this year and the average price last week was 26.8 NOK/kg compared with 28.8 NOK/kg at the beginning of the year according to information from the Norwegian statistics office. The price is now acceptable for buyers, e.g. producers in Europe such as Alfesca. The price is now near the same level as in 2007 when the average price was 26.7 NOK/kg. However, the price reduction this year is unfavourable to salmon farming companies in Norway. Salmon prices have remained relatively stable this year to date. Price stability is important for both producers and buyers. The development of salmon prices is somewhat different from the development in other commodity markets, most of which are currently marked by soaring prices and wide fluctuations
