Síldarvinnslan’s pelagic vessel Börkur landed 2100 tonnes of blue whiting in Neskaupstaður yesterday, and was back to sea as soon as discharging was complete. The company’s other vessels have also been fishing well as the year approaches its end.

Kampi invests in Skaginn 3X tub handling

Shrimp processor Kampi ehf, based in Ísafjörður in north-western Iceland, went to Skagnn 3X for a tub handling system to streamline its production processes. Switching to the Skaginn 3X system increases factory automation and capacity as well as reducing the use of forklifts, while also providing better handling of raw material and tubs.

Iceland’s factory trawler fleet continues to shrink

Factory trawler Guðmundur í Nesi RE-13 has been advertised for sale and its crew of 36 given notice as the latest round of fleet reduction by fishing company Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur hf (ÚR), previously known as Brim, takes place. The company is expected to be left with a single vessel in operation by the beginning of next year.

Eastern Iceland’s fertile autumn trawl grounds

Síldarvinnslan’s groundfish trawlers have done well this autumn. Gullver has fished mainly on its usual home fishing grounds, while Vestmannaey and Bergey have been working off the east coast, landing either in the Westman Islands or at east coast ports, which have seen more landings than has been usual.

Samherji vindicated after seven year legal process

A long legal battle for Icelandic fishing company Samherji came to an end this week as the country’s supreme court confirmed a lower court’s initial ruling that a fine levied on the company by the Central Bank was invalid. This brings to an end a fifteen-year process and the ISK15 million (€110,000) fine is no longer applicable.
