Norwegian company Mundal Båt, which specialises in the construction of GRP vessels up to 36 metres for fishing and aquaculture, has been acquired by Icelandic specialist boatbuilder Rafnar.

‘The acquisition adds four decades of Norwegian boatbuilding expertise, helps expand Rafnar’s vessel range to larger vessels, and marks a long-term commitment to building boats in Norway and around the Atlantic,’ commented Rafnar’s head of business development and general manager of the new company Rafnar Mundal Daniel Kvernøy.
Mundal Båt has a track record of designing and building vessels for going back forty year, particularly for fishing and aquaculture.
‘Mundal Båt represents exactly the type of boatbuilding heritage we admire – four decades of vessels built for the North Atlantic, by people who understand what the sea requires,’ Daniel Kvernøy said.
Rafnar was established in 2005 to develop the ÖK Hull, designed to be capable of significantly reducing wave slamming, while providing optimal seakeeping performance. Development of the ÖK Hull was a ten-year process and involved extensive co-operation with the Icelandic Coast Guard and Icelandic Search and Rescue Association.
In addition to its base in Iceland, the company cuurently produces vessels in Greece, Turkey, USA – and now production in Norway is added to the company’s portfolio.
