Icelandic fishing company Ísfélag Vestmannaeyja has sold its pelagic vessel Heimaey VE-1 to Norwegian company Andrea L, replacing the pelagic vessel (also Andrea L) recently sold to Denmark to become Themis.
The 71-metre Heimaey was delivered to Ísfélag in 2012 by the Asmar yard in Chile, built to an NVC design. Its build wasn’t a straightforward process, interrupted by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit that part of Chile in 2010.

Despite the disaster and the resulting delay in the pelagic vessel’s delivery, according to Ísfélag fleet manager Eythór Harðarson, Heimaey has performed well and met every expectation in the thirteen years it has been in operation with the company.
Heimaey’s crew will be transferring to their new vessel, acquired from Peterhead operator Lunar Fishing Company as Pathway becomes the new Heimaey with its delivery to Ísfélag later this month.
This 78-metre vessel was delivered in 2017 and has a 2500 cubic metre tank capacity. The handover is to take place in Skagen, with the new Heimaey expected to dock in the Westman Islands in time for the annual Seamen’s Day celebration that takes place over the first weekend in June.
