France’s Itech Mer international trade event for the comercial fisheries is scheduled for 11-13 October, and takes place at the Lorient Bretagne Sud Exhibition Center. This is the 15th time the exhibition has taken place and this year the focus is firmly on innovation and transformation.
In an industry that has already gone through significant changes, modernising to conserve resources, enhance the value of production, and improve the condition of seafarers, the port of Lorient-Keroman has become a leading international hub and has developed its maritime sector.
According to Itech Mer’s organisers, there are new challenges to be addressed in the form of the energy crisis, the climate emergency, and the need to preserve the oceans.
‘Supported by the local authorities and the industry, ItechMer 2023 will fully assume its role as a business exhibition and facilitator expected by a sector in full transition,’ the organisers state.
‘Itech Mer is an economic and institutional meeting place for the fishing industry. Shipyards, ports, engine manufacturers, equipment suppliers for catching, safety, electronics, processing, packaging, transporters, and service companies… Almost all of the 210 exhibitors present in 2021 have planned to return and new companies are interested in the tradeshow.’
Itech Mer attracts visitors from all French coast regions, from the northern coasts to the overseas territories. International delegations are expected from North and West Africa, Northern Europe, and the Sultanate of Oman, which is coming to meet French businesses for the development of its fishing center in the port of Duqm.
‘Itech Mer 2023 will be focused on transformation and innovation, both in terms of the equipment and services on offer and in terms of its program of meetings and conferences – energy savings and decarbonisation, port optimisation, reduction of the impact of activities on the environment, governance, and access to resources,’ the organisers state.
‘An important focus will also be on the new generation who will be looking at the sector.’
Itech Mer is organised by Lorient Bretagne Sud Expo-Congrès with the support of Lorient-Agglomération and the Region of Brittany.
