Icelandic aquaculture operator Arctic Fish has contracted with Scale AQ for the delivery of a new feed barge and additional system for its Tálknafjörður site, as well as ordering technical systems from Mørenot and Fiizk.
In a round of investment valued at roughly ISK1.3 billion, Arctic Fish has also placed an order with Fjord Maritime for a battery on board the feed barge, reducing the requirement for shore power by 70%. The Aasgard feed barge will have a 750-tonne capacity and can supply eight cages simultaneously. This is the largest in the Scale AQ range.
The barge will have a battery charged by the diesel generators and the battery option increases operational flexibility to minimise generator running time and keep fuel consumption down.
Scale AQ is also supplying nine new 200-metre cages with anchoring systems for the Tálknafjörður site. These are a step up in capacity from the 160-metre cages used up to now. Mørenot is supplying more than thirty netting cages made in HDPE, a material which offers greater strength than the systems used for the older cages.
Alongside this, Arctic Fish has co-operated closely with Hampiðjan’s Ísafjörður branch to maintain cages – which has led Hampiðjan to expand its facilities at this location.
Arctic Fish has also invested in more than thirty louse skirts from Fiizk. These are designed to prohibit access to the cages and their contents by lice and have been successfully used in recent years as a preventative measure.
