The Northern Shipyard in St Petersburg has formally handed over longliner Marlin to Arkhangelsk fishing company Globus.
Construction of the Marin Teknikk-designed longliner began in September 2018 and its launch took place in 2020. The extended delay in completion is attributed to the challenges of obtaining and commissioning equipment imported from western countries following the imposition of sanctions that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The 58.60-metre, 13-metre breadth Marlin is one of a number of MT1112XL design longliners for companies in Russia, built under the government investment quotas initiative.
Marlin features a moonpool, with lines hauled durectly through an opening in the vessel’s underside into a space for handling the 72,000-hook longline system and for catches to be routed to the processing deck. A system of cameras enables the officer on watch in the wheelhouse to monitor the moonpool while manoeuvring the vessel to stay on track while hauling.
Power is provided by twin 1350kW engines powering steerable propellers that deliver exceptional manoeuvrability, especially at low speeds.
Catch handling capacity is for Marlin’s factory deck designed to produce up to 15 tonnes H&G per day, as well as 8 tonnes of primarily cod and haddock fillets, plus canned liver. The refrigerated fishroom has capacity for 600 tonnes of frozen production.
