Gael Force has announced the closure of its creel production in Stornoway, which has been continuously active for 43 years.
The viability of this operation has been in question for some time – although given its central role in the origins of Gael Force the company has continued to support Stornoway production for as long as feasible.
‘We have reached this decision in consultation with our most important stakeholders – our loyal and hardworking workforce over the past months. This is a workforce which includes multiple colleagues with over 30 years of service, and our manager, Ewen France, who was the first employee 43 years ago,’ a Gael Force representative stated.
‘While we will no longer do this in Stornoway, we will continue to produce highly successful and high-quality creels to our renowned Gael Force specifications and designs.’
Douglas Bowman and Stuart Cameron will continue to look after creel customers into the foreseeable future, and Ewen France – the first employee at the site 43 years ago – will continue until retirement later in the year. All other Gael Force operations will continue unchanged.
