The port of Skagen has cemented its role as Denmark’s leading fishing port, according to the latest figures from the Danish Fisheries Agency.
In 2024, the Port of Skagen increased its market share by a full 4% – meaning that 60% of total Danish landings came to Skagen. In terms of value, the Port of Skagen also experienced growth in 2024, as the share increased from 41 to 42%.
‘It’s gratifying that Skagen Port, despite challenges in the fishing industry, maintains its position – we have positive expectations for the future and we are working purposefully with companies and the fishing industry to optimise conditions and create new opportunities for growth,’ said director of Skagen Port Willy B. Hansen.
Although the total value of fishing landings in Skagen has decreased by 100 million kroner, from DKK 1,710 billion in 2023 to DKK 1,607 billion in 2024, the port of Skagen has managed to maintain its strength and attract a larger share of landings.
The decline may be due to the purchase prices of industrial fish and herring being lower than last year, in terms of volume, the landings are very close in 2023 and 2024. The volume of landings of food fish, shrimp and langoustine are largely unchanged, while the value, especially of consumption species, has increased.
