A twin-rigger factory vessel for the FOR Group has been delivered by the Vyborg Shipyard. Kapitan Taran is expected to be into its first trip early next month, after calling first at its home port of Murmansk.

The 80.40-metre, ice-class Kapitan Taran has a breadth of 15.40 metres and is powered by a 4640kW main engine. Processing capacity is around 105 tonnes per day of demersal species and the new trawler has a 2375 cubic metre capacity in its refrigerated fishrooms.
Factory deck systems on board include processing route for consumer-ready products. Processing on board is designed to be waste-free, with product lines for caviar, cod liver, fishmeal and fish oil, in addition to fillet production.
Kapitan Taran’s keel was laid in September 2020, and this is the second in the series of three KMT02.03 trawlers ordered for FOR Group , and follows sister vessel Dmitry Kozharsky, which has been fishing successfully since its delivery last year.
The new trawler has bene built under the Russian government’s investment quotas initiative and was handed over at a formal ceremony at the Vyborg Shipyard.
