New pelagic vessel Quantus PD-379 has been christened at an event in Ølensvåg, where the new trawler has been deliverd by Westcon.
The 75.30-metre, 15.80-metre breadth Quantus is a Salt design, built for Peterhead fishing company Quantus Ltd – run by Ian Buchan and his sons Mark and Stuart – and Peter and J. Johnstone Ltd.
While the owners’ relationship with Salt Ship Design goes back a long way and they have built three new vessels at Norwegian yards since 1988, this is the first time they have worked with Westcon Yards.
The hull of Quantus was fabricated in Turkey and delivered to the yard in Norway last year for outfitting.
‘For the Norwegian yard industry, it is encouraging to see another pelagic vessel contracted in Norway,’ said a Westcon representative.
The completion of Quantus follows the delivery last year by Westcon of Trønderbas, which is also a Salt design.
Quantus is expected to operate on the Scottish fleet’s conventional herring, mackerel and blue whiting fisheries.
