The Vigo-based Nueva Pescanova Group is strengthening its fishing activity and investment in Namibia with the addition of freezer vessel Olupale to the NovaNam fleet.
The 59.82-metre, 12.65-metre breadth Olupale has capacity to generate 2500 tonnes of finished product per year and will become the most modern vessel operating on African fishing grounds.
It has a 900 cubic metre fishrrom and accommodation for a crew of up to 29. It will operate primarily on hake in Namibian waters for Nueva Pescanova subsidiary NovaNam.
The trawler was acquired from Mar de Arbo SL. It was built in 2024 and has not been operational to date. It will require some alterations and outfitting before sea trials take place. It is expected to begin fishing in Namibian waters in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Olupale replaces Mar del Cabo, which suffered a fire last year, and represents a significant upgrade that reinforces Nueva Pescanova’s commitment to Namibia and to the development of its operations in African waters. Through NovaNam, Nueva Pescanova has maintained a strong presence in Namibia since 1990, where it continues to contribute to the economic and social development of local communities.
