Guðbjartur Thórarinsson takes over as managing director of Icelandic fishing gear company Ísfell, bringing with him a broad experience of various sectors of the fishing industry.
A qualified fishing gear technologist and navigation college graduate holding skipper´s qualifications, Guðbjartur Thórarinsson also completed a master’s degree in international business.
He has sailed on a variety of fishing vessels under several flags, as deckhand, mate and skipper, before coming ashore. He spent eleven years at Marel, eight of them as managing director of Marel Slovakia, and for the last three years he has been head of Hampiðjan’s sales and marketing before leaving to join Ísfell.
Based in Hafnarfjörður, Ísfell has eight locations in Iceland and one in Greenland. The company supplies fishing gear to the Icelandic and Greenlandic markets, as well as handling some exports. Its location in Flateyri in north-western Iceland specialises in servicing the aquaculture sector in that region. The company represents a number of overseas companies on the Icelandic market, including Norwegian longline equipment manufacturer Mustad and Russian fishing gear manufacturer Fishering Service.
