The fourth in a series of seine netters designed to supply fresh catches to shore-based processing has been delivered to the Lenin Collective Farm in the Russian Far East.
Designed by Forss Technologies and built at the Torsiotest yard, Karymai joins previous deliveries Apache, Sokoch and Karaga in the ongoing series of six vessels.
These are 26.45-metre vessels with an 8-metre beam and powered by 441kW engines. Each has accommodation for a crew of up to four, and a 90 cubic metre fishroom capacity.
These vessels operate in the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, where there is limited natural shelter from bad weather to be found on the Kamchatka side. The only places smaller fishing vessels can shelter is in the estuaries of rivers flowing into the Sea of Okhotsk. For this reason one of the requirements at the design stage was a draft of around two metres, allowing these vessels to enter rivers to seek shelter.
