The list of fishing vessels under construction at the JSC Pella yard in St Petersburg continues to grow, with the keels of two more vessels laid; newbuilds numbers 414 and 415.

In his summary of the preliminary figures for 2017, the head of the Russian Fisheries Agency Ilya Shestakov said that 68 applications had been received during the year for investment quotas; 34 for new fishing vessels and a further 34 for shore-based production facilities.

The keel-laying ceremony for the third and fourth of the new Murmanseld 2 trawlers to be built at the Pella yard in St Petersburg has been held a few days before Christmas. The formal ceremony for the first and second trawlers in the series had already taken place in September.

The largest Russian farm for breeding white Pacific ‘Russian’ shrimp has opened in the village of Kollontai in the Kaluga region south-west of Moscow. Pacific white shrimp are traditionally called ‘royal’ for their size and delicate taste. LLC Russian Shrimp is the only producer of natural Pacific (royal) shrimp in the country, using broodstock imported from Brazil, Indonesia and the US.

Norwegian naval architect Marin Teknikk has broken into the Russian market with contracts with three Russian companies for four modern longline vessels to be built at Severnaya Verf (Northern Shipyard) in St Petersburg, with deliveries taking place over a three-year period.

Russian fishing company Stalactite, part of the Marfish group, has invested in a major refit of one of its fishing vessels for fishing in the Baltic.

The Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, has contracted to deliver a 113 metre factory trawler to Vladivostok company Preobrazhensky Trawl Fleet in October 2021.

The Okskaya Shipyard has signed a contract to deliver six new fresher trawlers to Murmansk company Valiant JSC.

Russian fishing company Norebo Group has placed an order for six new freezer trawlers to be built at the Severnaya Verf (Northern shipyard) in St Petersburg in Russia and the company has opted for innovative designs from Icelandic design company Nautic, one of the Knarr Maritime group of companies.

The Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad has launched the first of a series of three pelagic vessels being built for the V Lenin Fishing Collective Farm in Kamchatka.
