Haddock worth an estimated NoK200 million went uncaught last year, according to Norwegian research institute Nofima, which has put forward suggestions for the allocation of quotas to be reviewed.

After a break from building fishing vessels, the Sletta Verft yard at Mjosundet in northern Norway has delivered a new 15 metre seine netter for an owner in the Lofoten Islands.

According to Norges Råfisklag, sales of landed fish in Norway were worth NoK11.40 billion last year, the Norwegian industry’s second highest year ever, and following the record-breaking sales figures of NoK11.50 billion in 2016. Norwegian fishing vessels accounted for NoK9.50 billion of this total, up on last year’s NoK9.10 billion figure.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement to acquire Rapp Marine Group (RMG) in order to strengthen its offering for the fishery and research vessel sector. MacGregor’s existing portfolio includes already various deck handling equipment, such as cranes and booms, but the acquisition of RMG is expected to allow MacGregor is able to offer complete packages with advanced winches and related control systems.

Jemar Norpower has delivered a new 43ft Malo fishing boat to owners in the north of Norway, with the yard’s staff putting in overtime to complete the new boat two weeks ahead of schedule so owner Johnny Henriksen was able to sail it home before Christmas.

Aukra fishing company Orten Fiskeriselskap is planning to take delivery of a new longliner/netter, designed by Måløy naval architect Seacon and ordered from the Vard shipyard, close to the fishing company’s base near Molde on the Norwegian west coast.

The Trefjar yard at Hafnarfjörður in Iceland has delivered a new Cleopatra fast fishing boat to Norwegian fisherman Terje Moltubakk, who has already started fishing with the new boat.
Norwegian design company Marin Teknikk has contracted with Frøyanes AS to supply design and engineering packages for a pair of new longliners.

Norway’s Ministry of the Environment has cleared the way for Statoil to drill for oil on the Viking Bank. Jonny Berfjord, chair of the board of directors of Norwegian vessel owners’ organisation Fiskebåt, has expressed his disappointment at the decision.
