The Norwegian fleet has finished one capelin season and another has started, as their quota in Icelandic waters has been fished and the Barents Sea capelin fishery is now in progress.

Icelandic boatbuilder Trefjar has delivered a new Cleopatra Fisherman 36 to a customer in western Norway.

Ålesund fisherman Henning Veibust has ordered a new pelagic vessel from Karstensens in Denmark, boosting the yard’s orderbook of pelagic boats to deliver in the next three years to fifteen, and making the yard a clear leader in this field.

A relaxation of the regulations concerning fishing methods, giving operators a freer choice of gear types, has made it possible for Norwegian owners Atlantic Longline to order a new vessel capable of alternating longlining and seine netting. This will be one of the most sophisticated vessels of its kind when delivered in late 2019.

A pelagic vessel under construction at the Kleven Verft yard at Ulsteinvik in Norway is being fitted with the latest in ultra-high definition (UHD) wheelhouse systems, with six 55-inch displays for its integrated fishing and navigation hardware.

Norwegian longline operators Carisma Fish and Ervik Havfiske are set to merge, having already amalgamated their sales activities last year under the Arctic Linefish name.

At 61.80 metres overall and with a 13.50 metre beam, the new longliner ordered by Norwegian operator HP Holmeset will be the one of the biggest and most modern vessels of its kind in the world, replacing the company’s present 51 metre vessel.

Norway’s Institute of Marine Research has recommended a provisional quota of 70,000 tonnes of sandeel in 2018. Following an acoustic survey, a revised recommendation will be made.

Salt Ship Design has developed the design for a ground-breaking pelagic vessel for Norwegian company Liafjord, owned by the Lie family. The new battery and LNG-powered vessel will be built in Turkey.

Norwegian fisheries for Norway pout, sandeel and brisling have been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, which brings more than 90% of Norwegian wild fisheries under MSC certification.
