Fish exports from the Faroe Islands amounted to DKK11.2 billion between September 2021 and August 2022, breaking the DKK11 billion barrier for the first time.
During the first eight months of 2022, fish exports increased by 35% compared to the same period in the previous year, totalling DKK8 billion, a substantial increase on the DKK5.80 billion for the same period in 2021.
The export volume of mackerel increased by 14% year-on-year, while the export value went up by 43%. This difference is attributed to a 25% price increase in frozen whole mackerel, and a similar trend applies to herring.
Salmon exports increased by 34%, amounting to values of DKK3.5 billion in the first eight months of the year – despite a 7% decline in export volume.
Exports of the demersal species – cod, saithe and haddock – have increased significantly, with export values going up by 51%, 27% and 69%, respectively. The average price for these species increased by 25%-33% in the past year.
