The MSC Sustainable Fishing Hero Award has gone to Heidi Walker, managing director of Walker Seafoods Australia, at the MSC Sustainable Seafood Awards Australia 2025 for her leadership in sustainable tuna fishing.
‘I am profoundly honoured to be the first woman to receive this prestigious award,’ she said.
‘It validates my longstanding commitment to sustainable fishing and deepens my resolve to further champion MSC certification.
‘I am dedicated to ensuring that more Australians understand the crucial role sustainable practices play in preserving our oceans for future generations.’

Her recent collaboration with renowned chef Neil Perry to launch Walker’s Tuna – available at from a number of retailers – was praised by the MSC for its innovation and contribution to raising consumer awareness about sustainable seafood.
‘Strong leadership is at the forefront of this product development,’ said the MSC judging panel. ‘It is extremely innovative and will help pave the way for other sustainable seafood products.’
The award highlights the broader impact of Tuna Australia’s members, who are working to ensure a sustainable future for Australia’s tuna industry.

The Sustainable Seafood Awards Australia is run annually by the MSC in partnership with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. It recognises organisations and individuals who contribute significantly to ensuring we will have fish forever by supporting responsible aquaculture and sustainable fishing practices.
