The Cornish Fish Producers Organisation has appointed Emily Theobald as its new Science and Policy Lead to work closely with the Cornwall Fisheries Science Board to advance one of CFPO’s core strategic priorities – placing science and sustainability at the heart of Cornwall’s fishing future.
With the aim of strengthening Cornwall’s capacity to deliver industry led, evidence driven fisheries management, her role will focus on aligning industry knowledge with robust data, supporting domestic and international fisheries management, and ensuring that the Cornish fleet remains central to future policy development.
‘We are delighted to welcome Emily to the team. This appointment is a significant step in strengthening the science pillar of our long term strategy for Cornwall. Emily combines strong scientific expertise with real operational understanding of fisheries management. That blend is exactly what is needed to translate evidence into practical action for the fleet,’ said CFPO CEO Chris Ranford.
‘Cornwall has consistently demonstrated leadership in innovation, from science partnerships to collaborative research trials. Emily’s role will help scale that work and ensure that industry led science continues to shape policy, investment, and sustainable growth.’
The appointment reinforces CFPO’s wider strategic vision, built around four priorities: science and sustainability, enhancing markets, careers and youth, and modernising harbour and supply chain infrastructure. By strengthening the science function, CFPO aims to provide a clearer evidence base to support long term coastal resilience.

A launch event and meeting will take place to set out clear objectives to strengthen Cornwall’s role in evidenced based decision making.
