The Greenlandic fleet this year has access to more than 50,000 tonnes of cod, with a 40,000 tonne East Greenland quota and a 16,000 tonne quota for West Greenland.
The East Greenland quota is divided into 32,000 tonnes on the Dohrn Bank and 8000 tonnes for the south-east region, which represents an increase of 5000 tonnes compared to 2025.
Taking into consideration bliateral agreements, this gives the local fleet 29,590 tonnes on the Dohrn Bank and 5290 tonnes in the south-west region.
In 2025 the Greenlandic authorities took the opportunity to increase the West Greenland quota for cod by 10,000 tonnes to 16,500 tonnes, and this year’s quota has been set at 16,000 tonnes, constituted of a 4800 tonne quota in NAFO 1A–1C and 11,200 tonnes in NAFO 1D–1F.
All of this West Greenland allocation falls to the Greenlandic fleet, as this quota is not subject to any bilateral negotiations.
