A British fishing vessel arrested by a French patrol last week, is being held in the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The UK-registered catamaran Lady T was inspected by patrol vessel Pluvier.
As a result of the inspection, the boarding team concluded that Lady T was fishing without a licence while in French waters. On instructions from The Maritime and Coastal Authority (DML), Lady T was escorted to Boulogne for legal proceedings to be initiated.
‘This operation demonstrates the vigilance of government services in protecting fisheries resources and their determination to enforce regulations. This sends a clear signal to those who might be tempted to fish illegally in French waters,’ the Regional Prefecture for the Channel and North Sea stated.
‘The Maritime Prefecture, in collaboration with the National Fisheries Monitoring Centre (CNSP), ensures the surveillance of fishing activities in French waters. This demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the French authorities and the resources of the coastal administrations to ensuring compliance with regulations and combating illegal fishing practices.’
