The Ukrainian State Fisheries Agency has delivered 8500 metres of fishing nets seized from poachers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for use by the country’s military.
This is part of an ongoing co-operation under which seized illegal nets become state property and are used for producing camouflage and for defending positions.
Just this month staff of the Poltava Fish Protection Patrol of the State Fisheries Agency handed over 125 nets with a total length of 7557 metres to the 14th Separate Mechanised Brigade.
‘Previously, these had been used for illegal fishing, and now they protect the lives of Ukrainian military personnel in the Kharkiv and Kupyansk directions. In total, since the beginning of 2025, officers of the Poltava region have handed over 256 nets with a length of almost 16 kilometres to Ukrainian defenders,’ an Agency representative stated.
The Khmelnytskyi fish patrols have also delivered 25 fishing nets with a total length of about 1000 metres for military use.
‘Each camouflage net is an important element of ensuring the security of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thanks to them, the Ukrainian military is able to remain unnoticed and successfully carry out combat missions,’ the Agency’s representative said.
‘We thank our colleagues for their help and call on all concerned citizens to join in supporting our defenders.’
