Faroese pelagic vessel Gøtunes is landing a 2650-tonne herring trip to Varðin Pelagic, caught far north of the Arctic circle.

Gøtunes took its catch in nine tows in Norwegian waters north of Tromsø around 70°40’N, 20°E, and this is a record trip of herring landed for human consumption.
This is a full capacity trip, and with such a long steam to the Faroes, it’s important to make the best possible use of the tank and chiller capacity on board, while also ensuring optimum energy usage on board.
The herring caught in Norwegian waters averages 280 grams and is smaller than the 370-gram fish usually caught in Faroese and Icelandic waters. Smaller herring fetch a lower price, and the catch landed by Gøtunes will find its way to other markets than those usually supplied by Faroese producers.
