This Friday will see a major recruitment effort taking place in Norway as a thousand youngsters will see a presentation on the possibilities offered by the fishing industry.
The event takes place at Ålesund’s Parken cultural centre, with 500 young people being given an insight into the fishing industry at 0930 and a second 500 at 1115. The thousand young people taking part in the Fiskeflåtens Ungdomsmønstring (Youth Fishing Movement) are from the Sunnmøre and Romsdal area and will be presented with an overview of the potential career paths ahead of them.
The event consists of a series of short lectures by seafood and fishing industry figures, followed by music and a panel discussion with young people already in the fishing industry or training to join it.
As an added incentive, a prize of offered to the best participating class.
The event is a joint effort by Surofi (Sunnmøre og Romsdal Fiskesalslag), Fiskebåt Vest, Møre og Romsdal fiskarlag and Marint Kompetansesenter – and this is one of the largest events of its kind held in Norway.
