A pair of the plastic trawl doors produced by Mar Eco has been successfully trialled on board a coastal trawler fishing from l’Ametlla de Mar on the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
Made from recycled plastic, the pair of Pluto doors were tried out by skipper David Margalef Fernandez on board the 14-metre Metza, and returned some promising results before the latest biological stop to rest fish stocks began.
‘Following these trials, I’m left with a very good opinion of Pluto doors. The conditions have not been ideal for coming to conclusions, but, even so, it is clear that, for the same trawl speed, the Pluto doors offer more spread force, and less resistance than my current doors,’ he said.
‘I can’t wait to try them again!’
