Wärtsilä is to supply propulsion systems for four new fishing vessels being built at Skagen in Denmark for Norwegian and Icelandic operators.
The four 75-metre vessels are being built for Icelandic companies Skinney-Thinganes and Gjögur, and for Norwegian fishing companies Veibust Fiskeriselskap and Ronald Ervik. Orders were placed this year and Wärtsilä is due to deliver equipment during 2023 for the four pelagic vessels scheduled to be handed over by Karstensens Skibsværft to their owners in 2024.
Each of these pelagic vessels is being fitted with a high-efficiency Wärtsilä 31 main engine and a gearbox with ‘take-me-home’ functionality, a controllable pitch propeller (CPP), as well as the the propulsion shaft lines including seals and bearings, the shaft generator, and Wärtsilä’s ProTouch propulsion control system.
The Wärtsilä 31 has been recognised as being the world’s most efficient 4-stroke diesel engine. Its output power has been increased to 5200 kW, thus enhancing its performance even further, according to Jens Karlsson, GM sales at Wärtsilä Marine Power
‘Wärtsilä has a long-standing relationship with Karstensens Shipyard and we are proud and pleased to be again selected as the propulsion provider for this series of modern purser/trawlers,’ he said.
‘Repeat orders are always a good indicator of customer satisfaction, and are a validation of our focus on efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability.’
