EU passes new technical and conservation rules for fisheries

The European Parliament, Council and Commission have put in place a new technical measures regulation governing the conservation of fishery resources and the protection of marine ecosystems. The new legislation has been welcomed by Europêche, in particular the regionalisation aspect which is expected to bring simplification and decision-making closer to fishermen and coastal communities.

West Africa joint fisheries surveillance under EU PESCAO project

Operation Baptista, a joint fisheries surveillance operation to detect IUU fishing, comes under the EU’s PESCAO project. Under the co-ordination of the Subregional Fisheries Commission (SRFC) and with technical and staff support from EFCA, this is a co-operative joint operation between Mauritania, Cabo Verde and Senegal.
