Erik Mikkelsen and Jan Bjerre Christensen, Hanstholm, have both bought an OILWIND Autoline System for their boats.
Erik Mikkelsen, Hanstholm, owner of the boat “HM 67 ELSE” and Jan Bjerre Christensen, Hanstholm, owner of the boat “HM 119 Sølyst”, have both bought an OILWIND Autoline System for their boats.
Eric´s first trip with the long line system was on December 29th 2009. The 8 trips, that Eric and his partner have been out on since then, have been good. They have caught a total of 14,000 kg, and have set an average of 23 long lines per trip (total 6900 hooks).
Since Jan bought the system he has been on 5 trips, and he also has had some good catches. He has caught a total of 6500 kg, and set an average of 14 longlines each trip. Jan has been alone on all the trips. The price of longline caught fish has been better than the price of fish caught by net, and Eric and Jan say you cannot get better quality. On the trips they have caught cod – haddock – saith – catfish – monkfish and ling.
The change from the net fishing to the autoline fishing has not been as complicated as one might imagine. It is the first time we fish with long line and in the beginning you would use a little more time on preparation of the long line in comparison to the net fishing. The system is simple, does not fill up that much space and it is easy to operate.
